I waited almost 3 years to get my son’s IEP to be translated from Spanish to English having my son ignored the whole time (my son has ASD, ADHD and learning disabilities) the school district kept telling me that they did not have a person to translate it. Attorney Dan Cooper was extremely instrumental in helping me deal with my sons school district. The district was giving my son the bare minimum even with diagnosis of Autism and ADHD, Mr. Cooper heard me out and put in the work. Mr. Cooper was very professional and explain the things I didn’t understand in layman’s terms, which made me feel I had a say, where the district would shut me down.
Final result my son will be receiving compensatory services. On my own I wasn’t receiving anything but brick walls. This was way more than I could do on my own.

Dan Cooper started working with us last year after 4-5 yrs of the district dragging feet, writing up useless 504 plans that were rarely followed or communicated to teachers. When we mentioned the 504 most teachers had no clue. Dan stepped in, informed us of what was needed and was the advocate we needed. After recurrent and lengthy struggles with our district related to special education, upon coming across crucial correspondence that substantiated my Child Find complaint, and contacting Dan after other lawyer consults were less concerned given the two year statute of limitations despite the fact we met the exception, he took on the case and this led us to a settlement with the district. Dan was prompt in responding to any questions or concerns I had and dealt with the district in a very matter of fact, no nonsense manner. Unfortunately can’t undo years of neglect, but there are at least resources to help us regain lost ground. I would highly recommend Dan Cooper to anyone in need. Definite bonus that it was of no cost to me, as this also would have been a major barrier. Most attorneys want a fee in advance for representation. Even though the parents can be reimbursed for a case that is won as the district can be held responsible for the attorney fees. we don’t all have the money needed for representation up front and that was not an issue the way Dan operates. I have 2 children in which I was referred to this office by a friend from my church. My son suffers from migraines and the school was denying a 504 plan, refusing to accept dr notes, and refused to work with us in this matter, and my son though he missed 21 days (due to migraines) of a 180 day school year still managed honor roll and NJHS among other things. Daniel Cooper stood by us guiding us along the way and we ended up with a 504 and an apology from the school.
My daughter started kindergarten with an IEP from early intervention (Elwyn). School told me that she did not qualify and they would not follow the current due to her not being 2 years behind academically. My response was “Why do we want her to fall further behind when we can stop that now and catch her up?” I contacted Daniel Cooper for advice. He agreed with my statement and that was the push, he took on her case and after almost 2 years of back and forth, independent eval’s and testing, and round table discussions, we took them to court, the day of court I received a phone call stating we were not going, the district (The Speed. Liaison that took over ) agreed we had a good argument and agreed that my daughter needed what we were pushing for.
Daniel took my children and treated them as he would his own and he didn’t even know them. He fought for them, and got what they deserved!

Had the pleasure of having Mr. Cooper as my daughters and I attorney. The school she attended were not adhering to any legal documentation and pretty much could careless. My daughters had went
from being an honor roll student to where she was failing just about everything. And though while the school continued too bully my child by playing with my daughters school work and sinking her self-esteem lower Mr. Cooper saw all the flaws of her IEP and realized that IEP was not setup for Ajanna. Overall he did his job and I thank him immensely and if I’d needed another school lawyer I would call him first. The 4 stars was because everything was rushed like if he sent you a document he needed it back right then. Never allowing you to read it in a timely manner nor if i wanted someone that I’m affiliated with an who’s expertise is dealing with mentally gifted and Specializes in special education. But again Dan did a fantastic job and I most definitely would recommend and as well use him again if I need him.
I would like to add that because Dan even prepared me for stating her case without getting emotional when speaking up, an what if any changes had the district implemented
for the future, which is now after he represented me, I got to get them to add an additional year and transportation. She loves school again and participates in whatever she wants to in the district after school, so I’m changing those 4 stars to 5! – M.W.
